1969
HARVARD ONCE AGAIN
Kostas Lambadarios’ son, Nondas (1944-2019), followed his father’s steps and also went to study law at Harvard in 1969. The firm’s archives contain handbooks and dense notes from seminars that Nondas attended at Harvard Law School.
1975&1979
FRESH ADDITIONS TO THE LAW FIRM
In 1975, Nondas Lambadarios joined the firm, which benefited from his timely new knowledge gained through his experience with advisory law.
Nondas’ younger brother, Dimitri Lambadarios, studied in Athens, London and Brussels. He joined the firm in 1979.
1980
LAMBADARIOS LAW FIRM CONTINUED
TO PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE
With the addition of Epaminondas (Nondas) and Dimitri to the firm’s personnel, the name became K. & B. & E. & D. Lambadarios.
Nondas had a practical spirit that was manifested in a more entrepreneurial attitude. As he was close to the business community, he had a clear conception of the issues and could offer more appropriate advice.
Dimitri possessed similar traits, and his wide social acceptance was manifested with his appointment as president of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (2006-2007).
With its new composition, the Lambadarios Law Firm continued to provide legal advice on a number of major agreements. In 1980, a loan agreement for $150 million was drawn up regarding the exploitation of oil deposits in Prinos and natural gas in the region of Kavala in Northern Greece. During this period, foreign investments under LD 2687 continued at a growing rate.
1988
INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION
Aside from private disputes, the number of disputes between states and foreign investors also increased. In 1988, the Code of Civil Procedure was amended to regulate the involvement of judges in arbitration. The main alternative for dispensing justice was arbitration.
International arbitration has been a significant field of activity for the Lambadarios firm since the 1970s. Thanks to their exposure to international agreements and clients, Nondas Lambadarios, Basil Lambadarios and later John Filiotis became involved in arbitration proceedings as arbitrators (Nondas Lambadarios also acted as a referee) on major cases. At the same time, they became more involved as attorneys for litigants taking part in arbitration.
As such, they acquired experience both as arbitrators and as attorneys, with inside knowledge of arbitration, as well as the way of thinking and the criteria applied by arbitrators. The younger Lambadarios partners assisted Nondas Lambadarios from the sidelines as he served as arbitrator or referee in arbitration proceedings for the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Gradually, partners George Panopoulos, Sotiris Dempegiotis, John Filiotis and Constantinos Lambadarios became very active in the field of arbitration, both as arbitrators and as attorneys.
Very few law firms have specialized in the area of arbitration, and even fewer have experience with both facets, either as arbitrators or as arbitration attorneys.
