EPAMINONDAS IS APPOINTED
ATTORNEY
Constantines’ son, Epaminondas, enrolled at the Law School and was appointed attorney in September 1897. During the Greco-Turkish War (April-May 1897), Epaminondas Lambadarios was assigned to the Army.
After being discharged from the Army, the young attorney followed in his professors’ footsteps and went to Germany to further his studies. He got his diploma from the University of Berlin in 1900.
By the time Epaminondas Lambadarios returned to Athens and began practicing alongside his father Constantine, the latter had already been practicing law in Athens for more than 30 years.
1911
THE FIRST SYSTEMATIC INVOLVEMENT
IN MINING AFFAIRS
Epaminondas’ father, Constantine, held a 4% stake in the mining company, “Antiparos”, based in Athens. It is possible that Constantine’s participation represented attorney's fees for the complex and time-consuming procedures that were required.
Nevertheless, the first to get more systematically involved in the mining affairs was Epaminondas. Though from a scientific perspective, Roman law had won Epaminondas over, professionally he was more drawn to mining. He turned his attention towards such business activities in 1911 when he leased mines at the regions of Xirochori, in Aegina and Voutas, in Evia of Central Greece. In 1912, he bought the entire chromium mine in Afrati, in Evia.
From then on, Epaminondas continued his business development during a period when there were no specific laws regarding mines and their products. They were simply dealt with under Roman law as plain appurtenances of the ground. It’s worth mentioning that one of the first attempts to regulate mining-related issues was Law 529/1914 regarding the territorial additions, which until then had been under Ottoman law.
1934
FIRST SCIENTIFIC STUDY IN GREECE ON ISSUES RELATED TO MINES. “TOPICS IN MINING LAW”
Numerous other legal documents dated after 1910, particularly from the 1920s, testify to the firm’s involvement in mining affairs, which were a specialized area.
As a result of this specialization, in 1934, Epaminondas Lambadarios published a book titled “Topics in Mining Law,” which included a critique of the relevant case-law of the Council of State.
The book represents the first scientific study in Greece on issues related to the process of getting an operation permit, miners’ rights and the state’s rights.
Epaminondas remained involved with the mines throughout his life.
